Salmonella Infections Linked to Eggs Continue To Rise

A multistate outbreak of Salmonella infection tied to eggs continues to grow, triggering an expansion of a recall on eggs originating from Rose Acre Farms. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), contaminated eggs from Rose Acre, which were packaged and sold under a variety of brand names, have sickened at least 35 people, resulting in 11 hospitalizations. The recalled eggs were distributed to stores and restaurants in nine states: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Terumo updates cleaning instructions for heater-cooler devices

In response to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s ongoing investigation of non-tuberculous mycobacteria infections associated with heater-cooler devices, Terumo has revised its cleaning instructions for the Sarns TCM, TCM II, and HX2 heater-cooler devices to reduce the risk of infection to patients. Terumo’s heater-cooler devices are temperature management systems used during surgeries to warm or cool patients as part of their care, particularly patients undergoing cardiac, vascular or cardiotherapy surgery. These devices include tanks that provide temperature-controlled water to external heat exchangers or to warming/cooling blankets through closed water circuits. Maya Distribution recalls potentially tainted kratom powders, capsules

Nearly two dozen more kratom-containing capsules and powders are being recalled by Maya Distribution LLC under the Dragon Kratom label because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Injectable antibiotics recalled due to glass particles in vials

AuroMedics Pharma is recalling two lots of the injectable antibiotics piperacillin and tazobactam after discovering that some vials contain particulate matter visible only after reconstitution. The particulate was confirmed to be glass within the vial. If the glass particulate is administered to a patient, it could cause local irritation or swelling. More serious potential complications include blockage and clotting in blood vessels, which may be life-threatening. AuroMedics Pharma LLC is recalling two lots of the antibiotic injection Ampicillin and Silbactam due to customer complaints that red particulate matter was seen floating in some of the vials. The company believes the particulate are made up of bits of red rubber from the manufacturing of the active ingredients. If particulate is administered to a patient, it may result in local site reaction, phlebitis, pulmonary granuloma, occlusion of blood vessels, thromboembolic events, and systemic immune response.
