Despite no accidents or injuries being reported from the issue, Honda is recalling more than 320,000 Honda-CR-V and Acura ILX vehicles worldwide due to defective door locks. This may result in the doors not closing entirely or latching securely, putting drivers at risk of having their door open during operation.
The recall within the United States will affect more than 166,000 Honda CR-V crossovers for model years up to 2012 and over 6,200 Acura ILX sedans for model years up to 2013.
According to the statement released by American Honda, the problem occurs when the driver within the vehicle uses the power or manual door locks and the passenger door handles simultaneously, which could make the inner door latch not function correctly.
Owners should begin to receive notification letters from Honda around mid-August, referring them to their local Honda dealer to receive a free inspection and repair.
