Nationwide peanut butter recall for salmonella risk

Sunland, Inc., based in New Mexico, has expanded its peanut butter recall nationwide, citing a risk of salmonella. The company initially issued a limited recall of some of its peanut butter products last week. Now, the company is recalling all of its peanut butter and almond butter products manufactured since May 2012.
It is feared the products may contain Salmonella Bredeney, a rare strain of Salmonella that is linked to 29 illnesses in 18 states since June 11. The products affected by this recall have a “Best If Used By” date between May 1, 2013 and September 24, 2013.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises consumers not to eat the peanut butter or almond butter and to return the product to place of purchase for a full refund; or to dispose of the product. For more information, consumers may contact the company at 1-866-837-1018.
