The FSIS discovered the contamination during routine monitoring, when it confirmed a positive result for the E.coli O157:H7. National Beef Packing Co. was determined to be the only supply of the source materials used to produce the affected products.

The FSIS advises consumers to safely prepare raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit using a food thermometer to guarantee the temperature. Consumers are advised to wash their hands before and after handling raw meat with hot water and soap.
