Known for being nearly undetectable by humans, carbon monoxide is the deadly, colorless and odorless gas that is produced by the burning process of various fuels. Crown Boiler Company, a residential and commercial heating systems and water heaters distributor, is now recalling more than 2,000 gas-fired hot water boilers after reports of a carbon monoxide hazard. This hazard is caused by the air pressure switch, which can fail to shut down the burners in the case there is a blockage in the vent system, therefore allowing the boiler to emit dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide.
The recalled red and gray Crown Boiler CWD series cast iron hot water boilers use natural gas or liquid petroleum to heat water in home baseboard, floor and/or radiator heating systems. Each boiler stands above 37 inches tall, about 23 inches deep and ranges from about 16 to 42 inches wide with the Crown Boiler logo on the front of the boiler.
Manufactured between May 1, 2005 and July 1, 2013, recalled boilers feature the manufacturing date and a model number beginning with CWD located on the upper right side of the boiler’s white rating label. The manufacturing date appears in the MM/DD/YYYY or M/D/YYYY format or as a two-letter code beneath the word “Series.” The models included in this recall have dates between 5/1/2005 and 7/1/2013 or one of the following two-letter codes:
EB, FB, GB, HB, IB, JB, KB, LB
AC, BC, CC, DC, EC, FC, GC, HC, IC, JC, KC, LC
