Pier 1 Imports, a popular home furnishings and décor store, has announced a recall of more than 10,000 hanging glass star lanterns. The lanterns’ solder welds have the potential to melt when exposed to heat from its tea light, which may break and expose the flame, posing a fire hazard to its consumers.
The recalled glass star lanterns were sold in one of the following colors and SKU numbers: amber (SLI 2717349), clear (SKU 2717351) and red (SKU 2724169). The SKU number can be found on a hang tag attached to the lantern. Each lantern is shaped like a three-dimensional star with gold-toned metal and solid glass. Measuring approximately seven inches wide, deep and high, the inside of the recalled lantern contains a metal tea light cup.
From August 2013 through February 2014, the recalled glass star lanterns were sold for between $16 to $20 exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores nationwide and online on the store’s website, www.Pier1.com.
Before the recalled was announced, Pier 1 received five reports of the solider melting on the lanterns. One of the events involved the lantern falling apart and burning a rug. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Consumers may return the recalled hanging glass star lanterns at any Pier 1 Imports store for either a full refund or a store credit.
