According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the fish bowls have a tendency to shatter or break during day-to-day handling, posing a laceration hazard to its unaware consumers.

Shaped like a brandy snifter, the 1.75 gallon glass fish bowls were sold under the Great Choice or Top Fin brand names. Each fish bowl should come with SKU numbers 5140161 and UPC code 737257187092 located on a sticker on the bottom of the recalled fish bowl.

PetSmart has been informed of 10 incidents involving the recalled fish bowl breaking during use. Five of these reports caused cuts to consumers’ fingers and one knee, four of which needed stitches. One consumer suffered a lacerated tendon in the finger that required surgery.

Nationally, the recalled glass fish bowls were sold for about $20 from February 2013 through September 2013, exclusively at PetSmart stores. The products were manufactured in China.

Any PetSmart store will allow the recalled fish bowls to be returned for a full refund.
