Lithonia Lighting recalling more than one million Quantum® emergency light fixtures

Recall emergency lights1 Lithonia Lighting recalling more than one million Quantum® emergency light fixturesAccording to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), nearly 1.7 million Quantum® ELM and ELM2 two-light emergency fixtures have been recalled by Lithonia Lighting. The recall comes due to the fixture’s circuit board, which can overheat and thus cause the fixture to melt, catch fire and ignite nearby items.

The recalled Quantum® series ELM and ELM2 emergency light fixtures measure about 12.5 inches wide, 5 inches high and 3.75 inches deep and are available in black or white plastic. Each fixture also contains two incandescent lights and a rechargeable lead acid battery. A label with ELM or ELM2 will appear inside the fixture’s plastic housing above the battery. The recalled units have circuit boards that are green on both sides and either Rev B or Rev C printed in the top left corner. Emergency lights with circuit boards that are beige on one side and ELM2 LED, ELM2 SD and ELM2 WRS fixtures will not be included in this recall.

Before the recall announcement, Lithonia Lighting was made aware of 29 reports of circuit boards either overheating, melting or catching fire. One incident detailed how the fixture caught fire, causing more than $100,000 worth of property damage to an office building. No injuries have been reported yet.

From March 2010 through February 2014, the recalled lighting fixtures were sold at electrical distributors, Home Depot, W.W. Grainger, Inc. stores and other retailers nationwide. Some online retailers selling the recalled lighting fixtures were Grainger.com and Amazon.com for between $35 and $55. The recalled products were manufactured in Mexico.

Consumers that are currently in possession of one of the recalled Quantum ELM and ELM two-light emergency fixtures should contact Lithonia Lighting for more information on how to locate the circuit board and series name. Lithonia Lighting will allow consumers to order a free repair kit, which will include a new circuit board.
