Recall air exchangers 315x210 Venmar Ventilation announces air exchanger recall expansion due to four more reports of firesAfter numerous reports of the products catching fire and causing property damage, Venmar Ventilation has announced an air exchanger recall expansion to include another 108,000 units from the United States.

According to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall information, the recalled air exchangers have been sold under various brands to circulate air in and out of homes. Painted in either blue or grey, the air exchangers featuring the heat recovery option were manufactured between January 2002 and May 2008 with brand and model information located on a silver or black label on its outside panel.

Recalled air exchangers without the heat recovery option were manufactured between January 2002 and July 2009 and have its brand and model information printed on the unit’s rating plate. The information may also be imprinted on the unit’s side.

All 30 incidents linked to the air exchangers, both with and without heat recovery, have resulted in fires and more than $1.1 million in property damages. No injuries have been reported thus far.

The recalled air exchangers with heat recovery were sold for between $700 and $2,500 from January 2002 through May 2008 at heating, plumbing and building supply distributors nationwide. The air exchangers without heat recovery were sold at similar business from January 2002 through July 2009 for between $350 and $850. All of the recalled air exchangers were manufactured in Canada.

Venmar Ventilation and CPSC urge consumers to stop using their air exchangers and contact Venmar Ventilation for a free inspection and repair by a Venmar field technician.
