Nearly 52,000 SKLZ Recoil 360 All-Position Resistance Trainers recalled after reports of serious injury

Recall resistance trainer 328x210 Nearly 52,000 SKLZ Recoil 360 All Position Resistance Trainers recalled after reports of serious injuryResistance trainers recalled by Pro Performance, in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), are linked to injury reports. The recall involves the SKLZ Recoil 360™ All-Position Resistance Trainers. More than 50,000 of the potentially dangerous SKLZ Recoil 360™ All-Position Resistance Trainers are included in the recall.

The hazard related to the resistance trainers comes from a weld on a ring on the resistance trainer’s belt, which may break unexpectedly during use. If this breakage were to occur, the trainer’s flexible cord would suddenly retract and hit the exercise partner holding the other end.

The SKLZ Recoil 360™ All-Position Resistance Trainers are used to provide resistance in workouts by utilizing an 8-foot flexible cord attachment leash, a belt and safety handle. The product also comes with a storage bag for traveling purposes.

The belt, labeled with the word “SKLZ” and an arrow, connects to the resistance cord. At the other end of the safety cord is the safety handle, which is meant to be held by a coach, partner or stationary object like a fence or post. If the belt’s arrow comes before the “SKLZ,” the product is not included in this recall.

The faulty resistance trainers have been linked to three reports of breakage. These instances resulted in serious injuries to unsuspecting consumers, including blunt trauma to a lower leg, a puncture wound and a laceration.

From January 2013 through December 2014, the SKLZ Recoil 360™ All-Position Resistance Trainers were available at Academy LTD, Dick’s Sporting Goods and other sporting goods and fitness stores; in sporting goods and fitness catalogs; and online at SKLZ.com and Amazon.com for around $40. The resistance trainers were manufactured in China.
