Gerber Legendary Blades announced a folding knife recall after reports indicate that the locking mechanism in the knife assembly may fail to hold the blade down, resulting in lacerations to unsuspecting consumers.
According to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Cohort folding knife features either a black or dark gray anodized aluminum handle with the tail end having a lanyard hole. In order to become fully ended, the Cohort folding knife must be held open using the liner lock function, and should measure about seven inches long, as opposed to four inches when closed.
The actual knife blade only measures three inches long, weighing just fewer than three ounces. The non-clip side of the blade displays the Gerber “sword and shield” trademark logo in silver, while the side of the knife clip displays the Gerber name.
To find the model numbers of affected folding knives, check the lower-right corner on the rear of the handing blister packaging. The box packaging also features the model number on the bottom of the box. The list of included model and UPC numbers can found below:

To find the product date code, check beneath the knife’s thumb stud, along the clip side of the knife. All Cohort folding knives will have either an “E” or “F” at the end of the product code.
Before the folding knife recall was announced, Gerber received information regarding six incidents of lacerations; two of these incidents were serious and required stitches.
From January 2013 through March 2015, the recalled folding knives were sold for about $30 at Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Home Depot and other retailers across the nation. The folding knives were manufactured in China.
Consumers currently in possession of one or more of the Cohort folding knives should contact Gerber directly about receiving a replacement folding knife.
