Ivanka Trump might be making headlines for her association with this year’s presidential election, but what people might not expect is to see her name alongside a scarf recall announcement.
Nearly 20,000 Ivanka Trump-branded women’s scarves are now under recall by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) upon the discovery the accessories don’t meet the federal flammability standards set for clothing textiles. Consumers in possession of the recalled scarves are now ruled to be at risk of burns.
There are two styles of Ivanka Trump-branded scarves now under recall: Beach Wave, which features colors blue, coral and yellow; and Brushstroke Oblong, with colors in blue, red, neutral and green. Both of the recalled scarves measure approximately 76 inches long by 24 inches wide. The recalled scarves are made of 100 percent rayon with a machine-rolled hem, as well as a black label with “IVANKA TRUMP” embroidered in silver thread and sewn into the scarves’ edge.
From October 2014 through January 2016, the recalled Ivanka Trump scarves were sold for between $12 and $68 at Century 21, Lord & Taylor, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Stein Mart retail stores nationwide, and online at amazon.com and loehmanns.com. Although the recalled scarves have not yet been linked to any incidents or injuries involving the flammability hazard, the scarves’ manufacturer, GBG Accessories Group, and CPSC recalled the scarves out of an abundance of caution for consumer safety. The scarves were manufactured in China.
Any scarves included in this recall should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund, unless the scarf was purchased online, in which case the online retailer should contact the consumer directly regarding how to return the scarf.
Ivanka Trump Collection spokeswoman Tricia Whalen released the following statement in regard to the scarf recall:
“We’re disappointed to learn of the need for Global Brands Group, our license partner, to recall two styles of Ivanka Trump scarves, but we are relieved that immediate action is being taken. We’re seeing to it that this issue is fixed immediately.”
