Maxx, a discount retail chain headquartered in Massachusetts, has announced a foldable lounge chair recall encompassing more than 5,000 chairs across the nation. The recalled chairs may reportedly collapse unexpectedly while in use, thus posing a fall and injury hazard.

The folding chair recall includes foldable weatherproof lounge chairs made in two different styles: one featuring a white gloss frame with blue and white striped fabric and the other a natural oiled wood frame with red and white striped fabric. The recalled lounge chairs measure about 30 inches high by 42 inches long when unfolded. To find the chair’s style number, check for a hang tag attached to the chair’s bottom. A label printed on the chair frame’s bottom should read “MADE IN VIETNAM.”

Before the lounge chair recall was announced, T.J. Maxx received 15 reports of injuries resulting from the chairs collapsing during use. Consumers reported various types of injuries, including back and tailbone injuries, a fractured finger, three reports of finger stitches, as well as cut, bruised or swollen fingers.

During March 2016, the recalled lounge chairs were sold exclusively at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls stores for roughly $40. The recalled chairs were manufactured in Vietnam.

Consumers in possession of one or more of the recalled lounge chairs should immediately stop using the products and return them to any T.J. Maxx or Marshalls location to receive a refund of their purchase price.
