The recalled chargers are believed to overheat and cause damage to the game controller, thus posing a burn hazard to unsuspecting consumers.

The recall specifies the Energizer® XBOX ONE 2X Smart Chargers that are used to charge XBOX ONE video game controllers. The recalled chargers, which are made of a black plastic, measure around 3.5 inches long by 5 inches wide by 11 inches. The “Energizer®” logo can be found on the charger’s label while the charger’s item number of 048-052-NA can be found on the bottom of the charger. The recalled chargers can be used to hold up to two XBOX controllers

Before the controller charger recall was announced, Performance Designed Products and CPSC were made aware of 24 reports of the chargers overheating and thus deforming the charger’s plastic cover. Only six of the 24 incidents resulted in the chargers emitting a burning odor. Fortunately, none of the reports noted injuries from the recalled controller chargers.

From February 2016 through February 2017, the recalled controller chargers were sold for about $40 at locations including Best Buy, and other stores across the nation. The recalled chargers were manufactured in China.

Consumers in possession of one or more XBOX ONE controller chargers should stop using the product and contact Performance Designed Products to return the chargers for a full refund.
