Almost 20,000 Sportsman 850 and 1000 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are now under recall by Polaris and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The Polaris recall notice states that the vehicles’ right side panel heat shield may melt. There is also a second issue with the 2015 Sportsman 1000 ATVs where the exhaust springs can stretch and cause damage to the exhaust seals, resulting in exhaust leaks.
The Polaris recall involves all Polaris Sportsman 850 and 1000 model ATVs from the 2015 and 2016 model years. The “Polaris” logo can be found printed along the front grill while either “Sportsman 850” or “Sportsman 1000” can found printed on the side of the steering column. Sold in a variety of colors, the recalled ATVs’ model number is located on the fuel tank cover.
