Magnetic tic-tac-toe games sold exclusively by Target recalled due to serious ingestion hazards

Recall tic tac toe game Target 214x210 Magnetic tic tac toe games sold exclusively by Target recalled due to serious ingestion hazardsAlmost 20,000 magnetic tic-tac-toe games sold exclusively by Target are now under recall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the magnets can come off the tic-tac-toe pieces, thus posing a choking hazard to consumers and small children.

If multiple magnets are ingested, they can link together within the intestines and clamp onto body tissues, which can result in intestinal obstructions, perforations, sepsis and even death. Magnets can cause other lifelong health effects from ingestion as well.

The Target recall specifies the magnetic tic-tac-toe games mounted on a 10 x 10 inch plywood board with nine “X” and “Heart” game pieces each with a magnet on the back. The bottom right corner of the board should have the model number “234-25-1089”.

From December 2016 through February 2017, the recalled magnetic tic-tac-toe games were sold exclusively by Target for about $5. The recalled games were manufactured in China.

Target and CPSC have learned of one incident where the magnets fell off the game pieces, though no injuries occurred.

Any consumer in possession of one or more of the recalled tic-tac-toe games should stop using it and return it to any Target location to receive a full refund.
