Approximately 3,000 Xootr Adult Kick Scooters are now under recall upon discovering the scooter’s steer support may break during normal use. The risk of breakage poses a significant fall hazard to consumers.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the adult scooter recall affects all Xootr adult kick scooters featuring the QuickClick push-button latching mechanism. The recalled scooters are silver in color, measuring about 30 inches long by 10 inches wide, with a handlebar height of 36 inches.
Each scooter should feature the Xootr logo on the deck and lower section of the handlebar. The recalled scooter’s deck can be either plastic, wood, or metal. A black push button located on the scooter’s steer support confirms its inclusion in the Xootr recall.
From November 2016 through January 2017, the recalled Xootr scooters were sold for about $270 at stores including Lajolla Swim and Sport, Nyce Wheels, San Francyclo and other sporting goods stores across the nation. The scooters were also sold online by Amazon.com and Xootr.com.
Before the adult kick scooter recall was announced, CPSC and Xootr learened of six incidents where the steer support broke, including one report of a fall resulting in scrapes and bruises. The recalled scooters were manufactured in the U.S.
Consumers in possession of one or more of the recalled scooters are urged to stop using the product until they have contacted Xootr to receive a free repair.
