Polaris Recalls All 2015 Ranger 900 ROVs For Fire, Burn Hazard

Recall Polaris Ranger 900 ROV 269x210 Polaris Recalls All 2015 Ranger 900 ROVs For Fire, Burn HazardRecreational off-highway vehicle (ROV) manufacturer Polaris is recalling about 51,000 model-year 2015 Polaris Ranger 900-series ROVs, saying the heat shield on the affected vehicles can fall off, posing the risk of fire and burn injuries.

The recall involves all model-year 2015 Polaris Ranger XP 900, XP 900 EPS, and CREW 900 ROVs, which were made in a variety of colors and have either three or six seats and a rear box. The name “Ranger” is printed on the rear box, and “900” is printed on the hood of the recalled ROVs.

Polaris says that all 2015 Ranger 900 models and vehicle identification numbers (VINs) are included in this recall. The VIN is printed on the frame on the driver’s side towards the rear of the vehicle.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Polaris has received 13 incident reports involving the recalled vehicles, including five reports of fires breaking out.

Although none of the incident reports involved injuries, the CPSC warns about the risk of thermal burns and advises consumers to stop using the recalled vehicles immediately. Owns of the recalled ROVs should contact Polaris and schedule a free repair. The manufacturer said it is contacting all of the known vehicle owners of the recall.

The ROVs were sold by Polaris dealers nationwide from April 2014 through Mach 2017 for between $13,400 and $21,300. The vehicles are made in the U.S. and Mexico.

Last month, Polaris recalled nearly 20,000 Sportsman 850 and 1000 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) for a defect also involving the vehicles’ right side panel heat shield, which may melt and cause burn injuries. The 2015 Sportsman 1000 ATVs also have a second problem involving the exhaust springs, which can stretch and cause damage to the exhaust seals, resulting in exhaust leaks.

Before the Sportsman ATV recall was announced, Polaris learned of at least 793 incidents where the side panels either warped, melted, or burned during use. Forty-seven fires and four minor burn injuries were reported.

Owners of the recalled ROVs may call Polaris at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday and Friday, or online at www.polaris.com.
