Mid Valley Pharmaceutical is recalling one lot of Doctor Manzanilla Cough & Cold and one lot of Doctor Manzanilla Allergy & Decongestant Relief syrup because the medicines may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia, a bacteria that can cause serious infections that can be life threatening in patients with compromised immune systems. To date, Mid Valley Pharmaceutical has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.
Affected products include Doctor Manzanilla Allergy & Decongestant Relief in a 4 FL OZ bottle with the UPC 7 62558 00204 1, the Lot # 23221701, and the expiration date of 05/19; and Doctor Manzanilla Cough & Cold in a 4 FL OZ bottle with the UPC 7 62558 00316 1, the Lot # 23221701 and the expiration date of 05/19.
Doctor Manzanilla Cough & Cold is sold over the counter for relief of cough, nasal congestion, throat irritation, sneezing, itching watery eyes, and bronchial irritation. Doctor Manzanilla Allergy & Decongestant Relief is sold over the counter for relief of allergy, nasal congestion, itchy throat, sneezing, itchy water eyes and as an antihistamine. Both products were distributed to retailers and pharmacies in Rio Grande Valley, Texas.
Mid Valley Pharmaceutical is notifying its distributors about the recall. Consumers and retailers with affected products should stop using or selling them immediately. Consumers should return the medicines to the place of purchase.
Any adverse events or side effects related to use of these medicines should be reported to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting Program at www.FDA.gov/MedWatch/Report.htm.
