The number of people sickened by pathogens in contaminated food grew last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Thursday in its summary of 2012 public health data documenting foodborne illness in the United States. According to data from the CDC’s FoodNet surveillance system, cases of foodborne infection went up 3 percent in 2012 from the year before. Chicken truck collides with car, crashes in Alabama

A truck driver was injured this morning when his 18-wheeler hauling a cargo of live chickens crashed near the Montgomery County, Alabama, line early this morning. Authorities say the unidentified driver of the truck was traveling along U.S. Highway 31 when he swerved to avoid a tree obstructing the road. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, collided with another car, and overturned. The accident happened near the town of Davenport in Lowndes County, just over the Montgomery county line.
