The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a metal panel that fell from the sky last week and nearly struck a cyclist around the same time that a jetBlue flight bound to Austin, Texas, from Long Beach, Calif., experienced engine failure and had to make an emergency landing. Four passengers suffered smoke inhalation-related injuries aboard jetBlue flight 1416 Thursday morning after the airplane cabin filled with acrid smoke minutes after taking off. Engine failure results in small plane’s emergency landing on Bronx’s Major Deegan Expressway

Saturday afternoon, an apparent engine malfunction caused a small plane from Danbury, Conn., to make an emergency landing on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, N.Y. Formally registered to Michael Schwartz of New York, the four-seat, single-engine 1966 Piper PA plane was returning its three passengers from a tour of the Statute of Liberty when problems occurred.
