Transvaginal mesh lawsuits consolidated in federal court

Lawsuits against vaginal mesh manufacturers have been centralized in multidistrict litigations (MDL) in West Virginia. Plaintiffs allege that the medical devices made by companies including Boston Scientific Corp. and Ethicon Inc., caused serious injury and debilitating pain. The more than 100 lawsuits have been transferred to federal court in the Southern District of West Virginia. The MDL follows a consolidation of lawsuits in the same jurisdiction against a fourth transvaginal mesh manufacturer, Bard. Texas woman files lawsuit against transvaginal mesh manufacturers

A lawsuit has been filed against Johnson & Johnson and Ethicon Inc., by a Texas woman who claims the manufacturers knew their transvaginal mesh device used to treat pelvic floor disorders was dangerous and could cause severe harm. The lawsuit was filed in the Eastern District of Texas Beaumont Division on Dec. 8, 2011. The lawsuit alleges that the medical device manufacturers negligently designed and marketed the Gynecare Profilt and TVT, which are surgical mesh devices used to treat disorders such as pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Woman sues transvaginal mesh makers for $1.5 million

Manufacturers of surgical mesh used to repair pelvic floor disorders are being sued for $1.5 million by a Louisiana woman who claims the medical device is defective. The lawsuit was filed in Federal Court in New Orleans against Johnson & Johnson Inc. and Ethicon Inc. The woman’s lawsuit claims that Gynecare Prolift Pelvic Floor System, the Gynecare TVT System, the Gynecare TVT Obturator System, the Gynecare TVT Secure System, the Gynecare Prolift Anterior, Posterior, and/or Total Pelvic Floor System, and the Gynecare Prolift + M Pelvic Floor Repair System are defective transvaginal mesh products.
