Two FedEx suppliers face lawsuits after worker was crushed to death

The family of a material handler crushed to death under a cargo lift at the FedEx world hub in Memphis, Tennessee, has filed a lawsuit against two suppliers alleging equipment the companies supplied lacked effective safety mechanisms to protect workers, according to the Daily Memphian. The lawsuit was filed Nov. 22 in Shelby County Circuit Court and names JBT Aerotech of Chicago and Fast Global Solutions of Glenwood, Minnesota. FedEx Plane Accident Caused By Corrosion, Fatigue, Maintenance Failures

Federal investigators said a FedEx plane accident at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in October 2016 was caused by corrosion and fatigue in the landing gear but that the company’s maintenance policies and failures were contributing factors. In its final report of the incident, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the incident stemmed from problems in the FedEx plane’s landing gear, which collapsed when the aircraft landed on the runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport. FedEx settles FLSA class action for misclassified California drivers

FedEx Ground Package System Inc. has agreed to settle a Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) class action affecting more than 2,000 misclassified FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery pickup and delivery drivers in California. According to Forbes, FedEx will be resolving the claims made, some dating all the way back to 2000, by means of a $228 million fund. The FedEx settlement came to fruition following a 2014 Ninth Circuit ruling that the company was actively misclassifying its drivers as “independent contractors” in order to avoid granting its employees fair compensation and benefits. FedEx truck collides with bus full of students on California freeway, leaving 10 people dead

According to local authorities, a horrific tragedy unfolded Thursday when 10 people were killed after a bus carrying students was struck head-on by a FedEx truck that had crossed the median in Northern California. Lt. Bruce Carpenter of the California Highway Patrol reports that the crash took the lives of the drivers, five students and three chaperones.
