Fiat Chrysler Recalling Dodge Ram Pickups for Steering, Brake Defects

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced two separate safety recalls affecting nearly 800,000 Dodge Ram heavy-duty pickup trucks in the U.S. One recall affects an estimated 573,876 Dodge Ram 2500s and Ram 3500s for a “potential steering-linkage issue” that could result in loss of steering control. According to Fiat Chrysler, an investigation of the trucks in the U.S. discovered a problem in the steering-linkage configuration that could cause the assembly to separate over time. Fiat Chrysler Adds 1.6 Million Vehicles to Takata Airbag Recall

Fiat Chrysler has added another 1.6 million vehicles worldwide to its Takata airbag recall list, becoming the third major automaker to expand its recall of airbag inflators that can trigger deadly explosions. Fiat-Chrysler Recalls Nearly 5 Million Vehicles For Cruise-Control Glitch

Fiat-Chrysler is recalling nearly 5 million U.S. vehicles to repair a software glitch that could prevent drivers from canceling the cruise control. The problem affects about 4.8 million Fiat-Chrysler cars, minivans, SUVs, and pickup trucks from model-year 2014 to 2018. According to the automaker, “a driver could be unable to cancel cruise-control” if the cruise control system accelerates at the same time a “short-circuit in a specific electrical network” occurs. Normally drivers disengage cruise control by tapping the brake or hitting the cruise-control on-off switch, but both methods can stop working if the glitch occurs. Texas Woman Sues Fiat Chrysler Over Jeep Rollaway Injuries

A San Antonio, Texas, woman has filed a personal injury complaint against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles over injuries she allegedly sustained when her 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled over her foot. Sonya Dawson, 49, filed her lawsuit in federal court in San Antonio. Like many similar suits filed against Fiat Chrysler, Ms. Dawson alleges the gear shifter the automaker installed in some of its vehicles is defectively designed and prone to cause rollaway accidents. Fiat Chrysler Recalls 100,000 Vehicles For Takata Airbag Replacement

Takata’s airbag recall expanded once again over the weekend with a recall announcement by Fiat Chrysler encompassing more than 100,000 older trucks and SUVs. This latest recall includes mostly passenger-side airbags in certain 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUVs, 2010 Ram 3500 chassis cabs, and 2005-2009 Ram 2500 pickup trucks. Some of the driver’s-side airbags in these vehicles must also be replaced. Tokyo-based Takata uses ammonium nitrate in its airbag inflators. The chemical creates a small explosion inside the inflator mechanism on impact, causing the airbag to inflate. The ammonium nitrate can degrade over time, however, becoming exceedingly volatile ... A retired Massachusetts State Trooper who was injured in a Jeep Grand Cherokee rollaway accident is suing Fiat Chrysler in federal court, alleging the ZF shifter in his vehicle and certain other models is defective and dangerous.
