The holiday season sees increase in emergency room visits for fourth consecutive year, CPSC offers tips

While holiday decorating can be an entertaining activity for family and friends alike during the Christmas season, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns Americans that there was an estimated 15,000 injuries seen in emergency departments during the months of November and December 2012 involving decorating for the holidays. Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti Frizz Serum is now under attack after several incidents were reported concerning the flammability of the product, posing substantial burn risks to the consumer’s face, head and neck. L’Oreal, the hair product’s parent company, has certain customers complaining they were not properly warned that the main ingredients of the product, cyclopentasiloxane and dimethiconol, contain an ignition point of only 171 degrees Fahrenheit – a considerably lower degree point than hair flat irons on the market today. Reports of minor property damage and burns lead to recall of approximately 19,000 pendant lamps

Crate & Barrel, a popular American chain of retail stores specializing in household furniture and accessories, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of approximately 19,000 Finley hanging pendant lamps due to shock and fire hazards. In conjunction, Health Canada will be recalling almost 900 of the hanging lamps as well. More than Two Million Dehumidifiers Recalled After Frequent Reports of Fires, Property Damage

After receiving reports of 165 incidents, including 46 fires and $2.15 million in property damage, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) and Gree Electric Appliances (a Chinese manufacturer) have announced a recall of nearly 2.2 million dehumidifiers in the United States and 52,500 in Canada. The recalled dehumidifiers have been reported to overheat, smoke and catch fire, thus posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. LED light bulbs recalled due to fire hazard

Lighting Science Group, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a voluntary recall for its 120-volt LED light bulbs. The bulbs can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The manufacturer has received 68 reports of product failure, eight of which were accompanied by visible smoke or fire conditions. There have been no injuries reported. The recall affects 554,000 units sold as 6- or 8-watt bulbs (equivalent to 40- or 50-watts). John Deere, the leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery in the world, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of around 4,700 Gator Utility Vehicles due to leakage in the oil filter that can poses a fire hazard. Ski-Doo Snowmobiles Recalled Due To Fuel Leakage

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Bombardier Recreational Products, a popular Canadian company better known as BRP, has recently announced a recall of more than 10,000 of their 2013 Ski-Doo snowmobiles. The recall is due to the fuel inlet fitting which can come into contact with the oil tank and break, leading to fuel leakage, which poses a fire hazard. In an extremely rare and unusual warning, Ford Motor Co. told owners of certain 2013 Ford Escape SUVs in the U.S. and Canada to stop driving their vehicles immediately due to the risk of a faulty fuel line creating an engine fire.
