Listeria Contamination Triggers General Mills Green Bean Recall

General Mills announced on Friday that it is voluntarily recalling frozen green beans sold under the Cascadian Farm brand after a routine product sampling turned up a package that tested positive for listeria bacteria. The green bean recall involves 16-ounce bags of frozen Cascadian Farm green beans marked with a “better if used by” date of June 2017. General Mills said that the green beans that tested positive for listeria contamination were produced in June 2015. Produce Importer Sues Supplier Over Cyclospora-Contaminated Cilantro

Farmer’s Friend, a Wilmington, N.C., produce distributor, is suing its Texas-based supplier of cilantro, alleging it sourced produce contaminated with the Cyclospora parasite from a grower with deplorable sanitary conditions in its Puebla, Mexico, farms and packing facilities. According to court documents, Farmer’s Friend accuses Don Hugo Produce Inc. of misleading it with “fraudulent and deceptive” third-party audits that certified the quality of the cilantro. Farmer’s Friend says the documentation showed the produce to be safe for consumption when Don Hugo knew about the unsanitary conditions in Mexico but concealed them.
