Ford Recalls 402,462 Transits

Potentially faulty drive shafts forced automobile manufacturer Ford Motor Company to recall 402,462 Transits in North America this week at a cost of $142 million. It is the second of two massive quality control recalls for the company in less than a year. A defective coupling could allow the drive shaft to separate, “cutting off motive power, causing the vehicle to move while parked or damaging surrounding parts,” USA Today reports. More than 850K vehicles recalled by Ford due to airbag safety issues related to potential short circuit

One of the most important safety features in today’s automobiles is its airbags; however, a new Ford recall calls into question the integrity of this system during an actual collision. According to the automaker, nearly 850,000 cars and SUVs, including the the 2013-14 Ford C-Max compact, Fusion midsize, Escape SUV and the Lincoln MKZ luxury car, are under now under recall. Steering defect, other problems prompt Ford to recall 1.3 million vehicles

Ford Motor Company is recalling 915,000 compact sport utility vehicles to repair a defect in the steering gear that can result in a sudden loss of power steering. The recall is the largest of four safety recalls affecting 1.3 million vehicles the auto maker announced Thursday. According to Ford, the steering defect recall affects model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs manufactured at Ford’s Kansas City, Mo., factory. NHTSA reconsidering how it publicizes automaker fines

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is considering changes in the way it publicizes penalties against auto manufacturers after it failed to publicize collecting millions of dollars in fines from Ford Motor Company for its failure to notify agency regulators in a timely manner of a safety defect in some of its sport utility vehicles. NHTSA officials launched a preliminary investigation on July 17, 2012 of Ford Escape SUVs made in 2001-2004, following consumer complaints of poorly performing accelerator pedals. In an extremely rare and unusual warning, Ford Motor Co. told owners of certain 2013 Ford Escape SUVs in the U.S. and Canada to stop driving their vehicles immediately due to the risk of a faulty fuel line creating an engine fire. The recall involves about 11,500 model-year 2013 Ford Escape SUVs with 1.6-liter engines sold in the U.S. and Canada. The family of a young man killed October 15, 2010, when the rear axle of his 2001 Ford Windstar minivan broke in half, causing the vehicle to crash into a wall, is accusing the auto maker of downplaying the urgency of a recall on the van.
