Three marketers and distributors of kratom products were slapped with warning letters by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for illegally selling the herbal supplement with unproven claims about its ability to help ease symptoms of opioid addiction and withdrawal. Nearly two dozen more kratom-containing capsules and powders are being recalled by Maya Distribution LLC under the Dragon Kratom label because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a mandatory recall order for all dietary supplements and food products containing kratom manufactured, packed or held by Triangle Pharmaceuticals LLC, after several of the products were found to contain Salmonella.
