Australian teacher leads class-action lawsuit against DePuy

A class action lawsuit against DePuy Orthopedics has been filed in Australia, led by Tammy Stanford, a 40-year-old teacher and mother of two who says the DePuy implants she received in 2005 have so debilitated her, she can no longer work in the classroom. Now, instead of experiencing the enhanced quality of life that the implants offered, she relies on crutches to walk and pain medication to make it through the day. Ceramic hip replacements may make squeaking noise

People with ceramic hip replacements may experience just months after surgery a squeaking sound when they walk, according to a study to be released by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. But doctors say it is likely nothing to be alarmed about. Authors of the study said that the squeaking nose is made by abnormal wear on the bearing surface, which leads to loss of normal lubrication and creates the noise.
