Three lawsuits filed by patients alleging they suffered kidney damage and heart disease from Johnson & Johnson’s type 2 diabetes drug Invokana have been filed in federal court in New Jersey. The lawsuits name Johnson & Johnson, its subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corp., the company that developed Invokana, as defendants. One of the lawsuits was filed on behalf of South Carolina resident Cornelius Benjamin. It claims Benjamin began taking Invokana to treat his diabetes in April 2013.
