Officials identify norovirus as cause of illness as more Boston College Chipotle eaters fall ill

The number of Boston College students sickened after eating at a local Chipotle Mexican Grill has jumped from 30 to more than 120, and Boston Public Health Department officials have confirmed that the illness was caused by the so-called vomiting bug, norovirus. Health authorities shut down all food vendors in a downtown Seattle, Wash., high-rise after an outbreak of the norovirus sickened about 200 people who attended a catered event inside the building Dec. 1. Chipotle Mexican Grill closed 43 restaurants in Seattle and Portland after more than 20 people fell ill from E. coli over a two-week period. Six of the shuttered restaurants were linked to illnesses, which causes abdominal cramping, and severe and occasionally bloody diarrhea.
