Pipeline Break Floods Indiana River with Jet Fuel

A pipeline failure released more than 8,000 gallons of jet fuel into the St. Mary’s River in northeastern Indiana Sept. 7, and officials warned a cleanup could take several weeks to complete. Bernie Beier, Homeland Security Director for Allen County, Indiana, told The Journal Gazette that an employee of Buckeye Pipe Line Company, which owns the busted pipeline, detected a pressure drop and immediately went to check on the line. Reports Show Oil Spills From Dakota Access Pipeline

Two separate oil spills in North Dakota released more than 100 gallons of oil from the Dakota Access Pipeline and a feeder line in March, even before the controversial pipeline was fully operating, reports show. The Associated Press reported that about 84 gallons of oil spilled from a leaky flange connecting a feeder pipe to the Dakota Access Pipeline on March 3. The spill occurred in Watford, North Dakota, contaminating snow and soil but not affecting any nearby waterways. State of Emergency Declared After Major Pipeline Spill Threatens Fuel Shortages

The governors of Georgia and Alabama have declared a state of emergency amid fears of fuel shortages caused by a breach in a major pipeline that spilled a quarter million gallons of refined gasoline in Shelby County, Ala., Friday. The pipeline operator, Colonial Pipeline, predicted that Alabama and other southeastern states would be the first to feel the impact of the pipeline’s shut down.
