Nebraska man sues company after on-the-job ATV accident

A Lincoln, Nebraska man who endured 148 surgeries and the eventual amputation of his right leg is suing the city and a staffing agency for more than $2.5 million claiming their negligence caused his injuries. Charlie Johnson claims he was working at the Lincoln Solid Waste Landfill for JJ Westhoff Construction Co., through LaborMAX Staffing in July 2016, when he was thrown from an ATV driven by an employee of the construction company. Polaris Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit in ATV Accident

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Polaris for the death of two Arizona women who were killed in a fiery ATV accident, KLS.com News reported. Destiny Dixon, 28, and Debbie Swann, 51, were riding a Polaris ATV in Moab, Utah, over Labor Day weekend last year at the Sand Flats Recreation Area, taking a challenging path called Hell’s Revenge Trail. Polaris Recalls All 2015 Ranger 900 ROVs For Fire, Burn Hazard

Recreational off-highway vehicle (ROV) manufacturer Polaris is recalling about 51,000 model-year 2015 Polaris Ranger 900-series ROVs, saying the heat shield on the affected vehicles can fall off, posing the risk of fire and burn injuries. The recall involves all model-year 2015 Polaris Ranger XP 900, XP 900 EPS, and CREW 900 ROVs, which were made in a variety of colors and have either three or six seats and a rear box. Polaris announces recall of 2012 Polaris Ranger® 500 EFI and Ranger Crew® 500 EFI vehicles

Due to reports of the off-highway vehicles’ throttle cable failing to operate correctly, Polaris, with help from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a recall of more than 16,000 recreational off-highway vehicles. The reports detailed how the throttle cable located within the vehicle could melt on the exhaust pipe, thus causing the rider to lose control, posing a crash risk. Government Accountability Office releases ATV report

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a new report called “All-Terrain Vehicles: How They Are Used, Crashes, and Sales of Adult-Sized Vehicles for Children’s Use.” The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is responsible for monitoring ATV safety and federal rulemaking affecting the manufacturing, sale and use of the vehicles, requires GAO to report on the various uses and advantages of ATVs and the nature, frequency and costs associated with ATV crashes. The CPSC and GAO define ATVs as “off-road motorized vehicles, usually with four tires, a straddle seat for the operator, and handlebars for steering control.” The ATV ... Read More

ATV rollover kills 22-year-old student pilot

A 22-year-old student helicopter pilot was killed early Sunday morning when the all-terrain vehicle she was driving rolled over. Reports say that Aura Corina Dacin, who friends described as a free spirit, “wild child” and thrill seeker, was driving the ATV at Oakland-Troy Airport in Troy, Michigan, when the rollover occurred.  According to Troy Police, Dacin was out riding ATVs with her flight instructor Saturday night when she hit a cement pad just before 1 a.m., causing the rollover. Maryland boy drowns after ATV rollover

A four-year-old boy was found dead last Saturday night in a creek bed after the all-terrain vehicle he was driving flipped, pinning him underneath. According to initial reports, the boy was last seen playing outside with a group of children on his parents’ property in Frederick County, Maryland, before he wandered off on his own and got on the Polaris Predator 50cc ATV, a model designed for children.  The boy’s parents told authorities they did not know the boy had taken the ATV and that they began to search for him “within several minutes.” They found the boy just after ... Polaris recalls Sportsman ATVs for possible loss of steering

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission announced a recall of about 8,500 Polaris all-terrain vehicles for defects that may pose a crash hazard. According to the CPSC, Polaris Industries of Medina, Minn., has received 19 reports of incidents involving the recalled 2009 and 2010 model-year ATVs. Polaris says that the front suspension on the recalled vehicles can separate from the steering knuckle, which causes the driver to lose the ability to steer the vehicle and could lead to serious injury or death if not corrected. ATV rollover kills Arkansas boy

A 12-year old Arkansas boy was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident on Sunday while conducting farm chores, Arkansas’ Hope Star reports. The victim, identified in the report as Garrett Malone, was driving a 2005 Polaris 500 ATV on his family’s farm in Guernsey, Arkansas when the accident occurred. According to the boy’s older brother, Garret left to take out the trash and drove the ATV around a barn located about 75 yards from the family’s home. Rollover kills experienced ATV driver in Iowa

Iowa’s Daily Register reported the death of 38-year-old Arthur John Rios, who died from injuries he sustained when his all-terrain vehicle rolled over last Thursday afternoon. According to investigators, Rios was driving a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 HD ATV north along a wooded trail just south of Eldorado at the time of the accident. The ATV apparently rolled off the trail and landed in the adjoining river. Fayette County Sheriff’s officers and the Northeast Iowa Medical Transport arrived at the scene, where they found Rios had died of unspecified injuries.
