Authorities described a Trinity Railway Express train crash in East Fort Worth, Texas, that left two people dead and about a dozen injured when it struck a dump truck as a “preventable tragedy.” Officials investigating the train crash said a dump truck with two people inside went around the crossing arm after it had gone down. A two-level TRE train carrying commuters sounded the horn and went into maximum braking, but it was too late to prevent the 74-mph train from colliding with the truck. The impact of the train crash killed the truck’s two occupants, Arnell Deon Tolliver, 49, ... Read More

Federal investigators found the cause of a deadly 2015 Metro-North train crash that killed six people in Mount Pleasant, New York, was a driver who moved her Mercedes Benz SUV onto the tracks despite active crossing warnings and closed gates, but they also found room for safety improvements. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the driver, Ellen Brody, drove onto the tracks on Feb. 3, 2015, “for undetermined reasons.” Witnesses said the vehicle became stuck on the tracks, and investigators determined that Ms. Brody exited her vehicle and walked back to where the gate had lowered, reducing the time she ... Early reports indicate the Biloxi, Mississippi, railroad crossing where a freight train struck a tour bus Feb. 7 has a long history of similar crashes. The crash investigation has just started, but the NTSB says there have been 17 accidents at the same downtown Biloxi crossing since 1976, the most recent crash being in January when a CSX train hit a delivery truck.
