Hyundai Supplier To Reinstate, Compensate Whistleblower Who Raised Safety Concerns

A Selma, Ala., plant that manufactures seats for Hyundai vehicles has agreed to drop its lawsuit against a former employee, reinstate her, and compensate other workers suspended during a dispute over health and safety conditions in the plant. The U.S. Labor Department said Tuesday that it reached a deal with the Renosol Seating, a unit of Lear Corp., and filed a joint motion asking the court to drop the Labor Department’s federal lawsuit against the manufacturer and three of its managers. Judge Denies Selma Auto Worker Whistleblower Protections

A former employee of Selma, Ala.-based auto supplier Renosol Seating has been denied federal whistleblower protections by a Montgomery County circuit court judge. Kim King lost her job at the Lear-owned Renosol Corporation in March after she attempted to deliver a letter to Hyundai executives expressing her concerns about toxic chemical exposures in the plant and low wages. Renosol makes foam car seats for the Korean automaker. Ms. King and other Renosol employees claim that chemicals used to make the foam seats in the plant have adversely affected their health.
