A popular Gatlinburg, Tenn., attraction that allows visitors to coast through the woods of the Smoky Mountains was shut down over the busy Fourth of July weekend after a woman was thrown from the ride and seriously injured. According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, a woman riding the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster in the front seat of a double-seat coaster cart was thrown from the slide on July 3. SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — A roller coaster ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California turned into a terrifying ordeal Monday evening when a car on the ride partially derailed from the track after hitting a tree limb. The family of a woman who died after she was thrown off a Six Flags roller coaster in Texas earlier this summer has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the amusement park, claiming parts of the ride were defective and the company did nothing to address the problems. Amusement rides send thousands of kids to emergency room each year

Injuries from amusement rides have sent 93,000 children to emergency rooms between 1990 and 2010, say researchers with the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. A Walt Disney World employee died Monday from complications related to a traumatic brain injury he received while performing maintenance work on one of the roller coasters in the Animal Kingdom section of the amusement park.
