According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sunbeam Products Inc. has agreed to pay a $4.5 million civil penalty for failing to report its defective Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewing Systems. The defective coffeemakers were later recalled in August 2012 after it was determined they posed an unreasonable risk of serious injury or death to unsuspecting consumers.
