Port Authority police are investigating a deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer that struck a passenger vehicle on the Cross Bronx Expressway early in the morning of March 27, and kept going. Caesar Contreras, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Two women in the car with him, ages 28 and 29, were taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition. A tractor-trailer driver died after strong winds blew his truck through the guardrails of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Thursday, March 9. Commercial driver Joseph Chen of Greenville, North Carolina, was pulled from the top of his truck as it floated in the icy Chesapeake Bay waters, but he died shortly afterward on the way to a nearby hospital. DOT Proposes Testing Commercial Truckers For Prescription Opioids

Federal regulators last week proposed adding four opioid pain killers to the list of drugs that commercial drivers must be screened for in urine drug tests. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has proposed adding hydrocodone, oxycodone, oxymorphone, and hydromorphone to its drug testing panel. Adding the drugs, which are commonly prescribed as pain killers, would bring the Transportation Department’s drug testing in line with new Health and Human Services (HHS) guidelines.
