Vaping Heightens Risks of Catastrophic Health Problems

Vaping products are widely touted as a better alternative to smoking conventional tobacco cigarettes, but are they? According to a new study published by the American College of Cardiologists, vaping nicotine can be catastrophic to your health in much the same way smoking is. The study found that people who vape were 56 percent more likely to have a heart attack and 30 percent more likely to suffer a stroke than people who do not use vaping products. Coronary artery disease and circulatory problems, including blood clots, were also much higher among those who use vaping products —10 percent and ... Read More

FDA To Grill Walgreens Over ‘Disturbing’ Vape and Tobacco Violations

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb is fuming over “disturbingly” high rates of vape product and tobacco sales at Walgreens drugstores and is demanding an unusual in-person meeting the company’s corporate leaders to discuss the problem. According to the FDA, Walgreens is one of the top violators in the nation when it comes to selling vape and tobacco products to underage kids in violation of federal law. Dr. Gottlieb indicated in a March 4 statement that violators like Walgreens are responsible for the soaring rates of nicotine addiction among U.S. teens and children, which have reached epidemic ... Vaping Doubled Among U.S. Teens in 2017

Vaping among high school students doubled in 2017 – the largest increase in smoking, drinking and drug use ever recorded in the U.S., a new survey by University of Michigan researchers has found. The unprecedented leap in teen vaping echoes the earlier findings of U.S. government surveys, which prompted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb to take a series of bold actions against the vaping industry – especially manufacturers who design their products and marketing with a special appeal to teens and children. More than 1.3 million high school students started vaping in 2017, according to the ... Read More

Vaping Safety, Efficacy Rebuked by Tennessee Health Officials

Tennessee health officials have grown increasingly concerned over the past year about the health risks associated with vaping products and especially the impact of vaping on children and teens. The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) issued its first vape-related health advisory five years ago. Since then, “accumulating evidence has increased the level of concern regarding the risks posed by these products to the health of all persons involved, especially children,” the agency says in its most recent advisory. The past year has been a rough one for the vaping industry. Armed with evidence showing vaping has become an epidemic among ... Read More

FDA Warns of Vape Products Containing Viagra, Cialis

U.S. regulators are urging people who vape – particularly males – to avoid vaping two e-liquid formulas made by HelloCig Electronic Technology Co. Ltd. containing undeclared prescription erectile dysfunction drugs. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a Dec. 11 announcement that HelloCig’s “E-Cialis HelloCig E-liquid” contains either sildenafil (Viagra) or tadalafil (Cialis) or a combination of the two drugs. The company’s “E-Rimonabant HelloCig E-Liquid” contains the undeclared drug sildenafil, the FDA said. Sildenafil and tadalafil are the active pharmaceutical ingredients in FDA-approved prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction. The FDA says it hasn’t approved the drugs ... Read More

FDA’s Proposed Vape Restrictions Met With GOP Backlash

Sweeping vape restrictions proposed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have drawn sharp condemnation from Republican lawmakers, who say the agency’s efforts to prevent children and teens from vaping are “un-Republican” and “troubling.” Clamping down on the sale of flavored vape and tobacco products has become a major focus for FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who proposed plans to limit the sale of flavored vape products to in-person retail locations where proof of age would be required to buy. Under Dr. Gottlieb’s direction, the FDA also seeks to ban menthol-flavored conventional cigarettes and flavored cigars. The proposals come on ... Read More

FDA To Restrict Sale of Vape Flavors

Federal authorities are barring the sale of fruit- and candy-flavored vape liquids in gas stations and convenience stores next week in an effort to beat back a surge of vaping among teens and children. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will still allow the sales of e-liquid – the nicotine-infused liquid that vaporizes inside a vaping device – at those retail locations, but only in tobacco, mint, and menthol flavors, The Washington Post reports. The FDA also plans to order online retailers of vaping products to implement stricter age-verification controls. The new restrictions, however, will not apply to vape shops ... Read More

FDA Seeks Proof that Vape Companies Aren’t Snubbing U.S. Regulations

Federal authorities have expanded a government investigation of the vape industry while threatening to pull dozens of new vaping products off the market if they are found to be noncompliant with U.S. regulations. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it sent letters on Oct. 12 to 21 vape companies, including the vape units of Big Tobacco companies British American Tobacco, Imperial Brands, and Japan Tobacco as part of a probe to determine whether they are illegally marketing some 40 new products. Earlier this month, FDA authorities paid a surprise visit to the San Francisco offices of Juul, the world’s ... Read More

E-Liquid Maker Added Viagra, Cialis to Vape Products

A company that manufactures and distributes e-liquids and other vaping products received a stern warning from federal authorities last week after it was found to be making and selling e-liquid vape products containing prescription erectile dysfunction drugs. In an Oct. 11 letter to HelloCig Electronic Technology Co., the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it determined the company to be making and distributing unapproved, misbranded, illegal new drugs with its prescription-laced e-liquids. HelloCig didn’t hide the fact that its e-liquids contained prescription drugs. On the contrary, it advertised its e-liquid containing the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis, which it called ... FDA Seizes Documents from JUUL Offices

Federal authorities seized more than 1,000 pages of documents from the San Francisco offices of JUUL Labs, maker of the top-selling vaping device, during a “surprise inspection” Tuesday, Oct. 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) unannounced call on JUUL is part of a broader clampdown by the federal government to beat back the alarming increase of nicotine addiction among children and teens. According to data collected by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 1.7 million high school students and 390,000 middle school students currently vape using products such as JUUL. One study published ... Read More
