Concerns of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination in fresh produce have prompted ALDI, Costco, Walmart, and other retailers to recall bags of peaches, nectarines, and plums from stores in several states. Listeria is a foodborne pathogen that can cause serious illness and death. The recalled produce was distributed by fruit distributor Jac Vandenberg Inc. of Yonkers, New York. Walmart limits opioid prescriptions to help curb opioid crisis

Walmart is making efforts to curb the nation’s opioid epidemic by limiting the supply of acute opioid prescriptions to no more than seven days and limiting prescriptions to a maximum 50 morphine milligram equivalent per day. The change will go into effect by July at all Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Retail giant Walmart has agreed to pay $1.65 million to resolve a whistleblower lawsuit alleging it knowingly submitted claims for reimbursement to California’s Medicaid program that were not supported by applicable diagnosis and documentation requirements. RBR Meat Company Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), is recalling more than 21,000 pounds of frozen pizzas after learning they might be “adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.” RBR’s Marketside Supreme Frozen Pizzas were sold at select Walmart locations in a 50.6-oz. box comprising of single shrink-wrapped 16-inch pizzas. The recalled pizza’s label should read “Marketside Extra Large Supreme Pizza,” with its lot code being 20547. Walmart has agreed to remove a verification statement from its store-brand Spring Valley dietary supplements nationwide after the Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller raised concerns that the statement could give consumers “a mistaken impression as to what product features an independent lab actually verified.” The statement “Verified by an independent, certified laboratory” is listed on the labels of about 60 Walmart store-brand Spring Valley dietary supplements, such as saw palmetto, St. John’s wort, Echinacea and garlic.
